Horseplay Horsemanship is simply my version of all the lessons I have learned along the way. Those lessons, learned from some of the greatest horsemen, horsewomen, and mentors in the world, have been applied to helping troubled horses overcome some serious people problems. I encourage people to use "Horseplay Horsemanship" to help their horses become braver, calmer and more at ease in their world. If we understand that horses by nature are hardwired to survive in the wild and we are open, empathetic and able to read our horses responses, then these techniques will work for all breeds, disciplines, and levels. Respect and safety go hand in hand, during handling, as well as riding. By starting with good basic horsemanship exercises that are effective in teaching respect and safety from the ground up, the partnership with your horse becomes safer, and much more fun. I believe that by incorporating simple tricks into our training, it adds a new dimension of fun for us and for our horses, as well as putting the horse into more of a learning state of mind that enhances their overall attention span. The only real variable to teaching horses to do anything is time; it's the horses time table - not ours! Some horses catch on quick, others not so much. It's the same with humans. Horses that have been spoiled or mishandled with whip or other tools can take weeks or months to overcome trust and respect issues. Play with your horse, learn to read him well. Be consistent, gentle and fair. "Horseplay" will soften up the toughest ones, and will help every horse to become a braver, safer, trusting and fun partner in accomplishing whatever your goals may be. Enjoy your equine friend and partner, and most of all BE SAFE.
